(Newhay Quarry, Showing Milnrow Sandstone Band) - 2004
Newhay Quarry was originally used for building stone, the Milnrow Sandstone which can be seen above as the thick yellow bed has been used throughout Milnrow and Newhay for construction. Above this, a thick coal seam can be found. These are all of the Langsettian (Westphalian A) group of the Carboniferous. Between the Milnrow Sandstone and Marine Bed, Mudstones and Siltstones yield insects and fossil tree roots.

(Marine Bed) - 2004
Towards the base of the cliff, there is a thick Marine Band known as 'Amaliae', most of the fossils found at this site are Shells, Fish and Trace fossils such as Fish Markings. A band of Ripple Marks can be found at the base of the Marine Band with the Nob End Rock sandstone at the very base of the quarry (currently covered by scree).
